Take A Look

from by Allen Mask

Take A Look is the "slow jam" on this record. It is probably the most emotional song on the album and is my best vocal performance to date. I wrote it on my 22nd birthday and remember spending the entire day in the studio after finishing the lyrics at 5am that morning.

This one is pretty jazzy. Notice the change in feel and harmony from one section to another. Groove heads should dig this arrangement.

Verse 1:

Maybe in my next life
I'll take to heart the fatal mistakes that newly minted lovers make
And not press 7 on the messages I couldn't wait
To finish from the mentors i would screen and never take
It'd be a tragedy if you and I could never date
And it may be a travesty that theres a golden gate
That for some reason i for now dont have a key to
But darling dont let my familiarity mislead you

Pre-chorus 1:

Last night I prayed up to the God of our did
Thanked him for the opportunity to learn from your live
Let him know how much I wanna keep this precious of mine
And that im thankful for the castle that we made with in the time
We sculped together
The days ill re-member best
How i somehow caught your finest fish in part of my mesh
I'd give anything to keep her here with me in the flesh
Lord bless this...my heart is restless

Take a look at all the things that i do
See the way i never cease to love you
We always talk aout it
Why cant we walk about it
Take a look at all the things that i say
See that i was down to meet you half way
Each time I think about it
Im on the brink about it

Verse 2:

Before we start just so you know
I humbly ask that
You be diligent in your quest to find a fast track
That could bring you right to my door but lady past that
I request that you judiciously
love me to the best of your ability
And that you're honest should you care for me fictitiously
And that you're modest when i share with you a synergy that shows my vulnerability
Cuz darling you could be the change in me
And when we touch I do it thankfully

Pre-chorus 2:

I guess im easily attached
Maybe perhaps too
Easily liked and attached to
I hope thats what you'll say when they call up and ask you
About why you would date so far out of your league mrs
Did my best to keep from losing all your sweet kisses
Let my lyrics cover everything the beat misses
But here tonight im here to write that im alright and should...
Because did what i could

And as I tell you everyday
I couldn't build you better
You'll always be my picture perfect in my purple sweater
Our one and only pictures perfect how we look together
The way you're here and with a purpose every single letter
Joy you've taught me just so much of what it means to be
A man of what is most important yet so graciously
Dedicated to his purpose and so faithfully
To an authority that says that gracefully - says that we made to be
